What to do 3D printers and Sewing have to do with eachother?!

I borrowed HacKRNspace's 3D printer for two weeks. What was a girl to do? I had just gotten back into sewing, especially upcycling and tailoring clothes. So of course, I had to print some gadgets and storage solutions, right? I found these on printables.com.

I started off small, I hadn't used a 3D printer in years, so I was rusty. I made this little gadget for measuring seams. Ended up not being very useful as I had no way to attach it to my machine (husqvarna viking emerald) but I'll figure out a use for it, maybe I'll print a longer version I can have magnets on either side that can attach to either side of the bobbin cover to make it more stable? Ideas are welcome.

Next I printed a little corner turner, it was so cute! needed a little filing to get it nice and sharp but it will be perfect to get those corners just perfect. I'm thinking about reprinting it in the new clear filament that we got so its prettier, for a 15 minute tiny print, it will probably be worth it.

My next print was this needle box, its absolutely delightful. This required some supports so was a slower print but it holds all of my hand sewing needles. It opens very easily so I have to be careful how I store it, I may glue on some sort of velcro catch to stop it opening in my sewing box but there are stops on the inside to stop the inner drawer from sliding out. Edit Aug 14th: Turns out I put the drawer in wrong, there is a catch that stops the drawer sliding out so easy, so it works great now! I even printed a second for my leather needles!

The next is a big print in a lot of stages. It is a spool holder. It holds 49 spools of thread, and consists of 10 separately printed parts. We originally started printing it in blue but when we switched to the clear it was so pretty we had to ditch the blue part we printed (it was just one piece so we didn't feel too bad) and reprint it in the clear. With a honeycomb infill and a clear filament it was looking STUNNING.

Edit Aug 14th 2026: the stand is now printed and in use and is absolutley fantastic. It lives ontop a set of drawers and holds all of my spools of thread.
